A day out at an award-winning brewery! [by Brian Leach]
We all met at the Craven Heifer in Darwen and drank his new brew Lancashire Gold. The barrel was empty before we left though after some Old Speckled Hen soon came on.
There brewery trips catered for small parties at a time and after the initial surprise at the size of our group, Barry gave a very educational talk on how to run a brewery in a garage.
The presentation of winning beer at Pendle Beer Festival 2008 for Smokey Joes Black Beer took place then it was back to the pub for drink and some of his famous curry - great, thanks a lot to Barry - with chips provided thanks to Damian the landlord.
We were split into two groups to go to Black Horse Beer Festival, one group going via Borough Hotel to avoid too many hitting one pub all at once. I counted 18 in the pool room at Borough, where we had a great laugh playing pool before walking on to the Black Horse.
At the beer festival there was plenty of choice and we had until the Smarty Pants coach came to pick up our members from afar so sample the wares....
