Moorhouses Brewery

Moorhouses was originally established in 1865 to brew hop bitter, Moorhouses switched to producing cask beer in 1978. After a succession of owners failed to realise the potential of the company, Bill Parkinson took over in 1985 since when the brewery has grown substantially. With a modern brewhouse being installed in 1988, additional fermenters were installed in 1991, and two further new 30 barrel fermenters were added in 2000.

Moorhouses currently have a tied estate of seven pubs, the latest addition being the Rising Sun at Blacko, which opened under the Moorhouse banner in late 2005.

Brewery Tours
Tours are arranged for parties of 15-30 people and are normally conducted on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings, commencing at 7:30pm. There are four packages to choose from.

Suggested Outlets
Five of the Moorhouse tied pubs are located in the East Lancs area. These are the Wheatsheaf, Stanley Hotel and the General Scarlett, all in Burnley; the Craven Heifer at Rawtenstall; and the Rising Sun in Blacko, near Barrowford. Moorhouses beers are also quite freely available as guests, in particularly their award winning Black Cat mild.
